It was business as usual on Monday for the Scotsburn Dairy Group’s processing plant in Truro.

Workers at the facility noticed a yellow haze at the plant Saturday morning.

A hazmat team was called in and the plant was evacuated.

All 23 employees were examined at a hospital and released.

Investigators determined a small amount of cleaning solvent had leaked from a pipe onto a steam line.

The plant was shut down for several hours, with no impact on production.

“We had no other production scheduled for that day,” explains Jennifer Swinemar Murray of Scotsburn Dairy Group. “We received clearance from the Department of Labour that we could continue processing if we wanted to, about suppertime on Saturday. But we actually didn’t start our processing again until Sunday evening, as part of our normal schedule."

A very small amount of production was lost, but not enough to cause any supply disruptions.
