Six people were taken to hospital with minor injuries after a crash involving 14 vehicles in Cape Breton Sunday afternoon.
Police say the accident happened around 3 p.m. on the bridge on Union Highway at Lingan Bay in River Ryan, N.S.
The highway was closed from Lingan Road and Union Highway to Seaside Drive and Gardiner Road for several hours while police cleared the scene.
The Scotchtown Volunteer Fire Department and Emergency Health Services assisted Cape Breton Regional Police at the scene.
Police say weather was likely to blame for the crash, as heavy snow and high winds had reduced visibility to zero in certain areas and roads were snow covered and slippery at the time.
The 14 vehicles involved in the crash have been removed from the scene and Union Highway has reopened.
However, police say roads remain snow-covered and slippery and they are asking motorists to stay off the roads if possible.
