The family of a missing Cape Breton woman last seen nearly four weeks ago is becoming increasingly worried about their mother’s fate.
Michelle Marie Demers-Kennedy was last seen on May 2 at her residence on Three Rivers Road in Framboise, Richmond County.
Her son reported her missing to police on Mother’s Day.
Police searched her home and surrounding property after she was reported missing but they were unable to locate her.
“It’s been so long now, something had to happen to her,” says her son, Frank Kennedy. “She wouldn’t just disappear without neighbours or someone knowing where she went.”
An RCMP forensics team has been scouring a property down the road from Demers-Kennedy’s farm since Friday.
The family has confirmed to CTV News that the home belongs to her eldest son, 31-year-old Merlin Kennedy.
The family says police have told them very little about the investigation, including why a sibling’s home is being searched.
“They have been down there for three days,” says her son, Rod Kennedy. “Not really sure what they are doing but they are up to something down there. They wouldn’t be all the way out here with all that equipment for nothing.”
Neighbour Evangeline Wareham says the case has residents of her rural community concerned for their safety.
“It’s got everybody puzzled up here, and I mean everybody. I wish police would come up with something to give us a little bit of peace of mind,” says Wareham. “You’re going to bed at night, you don’t know if you are going to be here the next morning or not. It happened to her. She went to bed. The next morning she was gone.”
Demers-Kennedy is described as a white woman with brown hair and brown eyes. She is five-foot-four and weighs 110 pounds.
Anyone with information on her whereabouts is asked to contact police.
