HALIFAX - A Nova Scotia Supreme Court judge will rule today on a $14-million provincial plan to keep woodland operations intact while a buyer is sought for the shuttered NewPage paper mill.

The government and NewPage have already agreed to the deal announced by Premier Darrell Dexter two weeks ago as the money-losing mill won protection from its creditors.

The agreement has been filed under the Companies Creditors Arrangement Act.

The fund allows for new silviculture work, harvesting and stockpiling of wood, road maintenance and a forestry training program.

The province says the plan will employ about 500 people in the Port Hawkesbury region.
