Dan Appleby

Dan Appleby is the news director for CTV Atlantic.

Dan started his career as a part-time assignment desk assistant at WMAQ- NBC5 in Chicago, Illinois. Since then, he has worked and managed in various roles in Cleveland, Ohio, Denver, Colorado, Windsor, Ontario and now Halifax, Nova Scotia. Dan has led the news department at CTV Atlantic since 2016.

Dan has covered or managed coverage of a wide range of news events and stories since his career began in 1993. From multiple U.S. and Canadian federal elections, to devastating tornadoes, wildfires, and snowstorms, multiple World Series events, the 2008 Democratic National Convention, and even the opening of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum, he has experienced news that has impacted audiences all over North America.

While Dan cites his experience in covering the 9/11 terrorist attacks and their aftermath as a significant time, he believes the COVID-19 pandemic and Nova Scotia shootings will be the most important of his career.

Dan is a proud Maritimer who was born and raised in Carleton County, New Brunswick.
