A fire has destroyed Cormier Brothers Fisheries in Cap-Pelé, N.B.
The fire started in the smokehouse at around 8 a.m. Monday and spread to two other buildings. All three buildings were completely destroyed.
Cap-Pelé fire chief Ronald Cormier said changing winds caused the fire to take off. Five other fire departments were called in to help, but crews were not able to salvage the buildings.
Owner Tim Cormier says the business was insured, but he estimates the damages to be upwards of $3 million.
“We’re going to rebuild for sure,” he said.
Employees were working in the smokehouse when the fire broke out but no one was injured.
