It took five fire units nearly eight hours to put out a blaze on Bible Hill’s Main Street early Sunday morning.

When crews arrived on scene at about 1:30 a.m., the H&N Variety Store and an adjoining residence were fully engulfed in flames.

Bible Hill Fire Brigade deputy fire chief Scott MacDonald said flames were shooting from the front windows of the building when he arrived. Crews worked to contain the fire and prevent it from spreading to nearby buildings.

It is not known how many people lived in the building but no one was home at the time and no injuries were reported. The building was destroyed.

The fire is not believed to be suspicious and due to the extent of the damage, the cause is not yet known. The Bible Hill Fire Brigade has been in contact with the office of the fire marshal.
