HALIFAX -- Flights are grounded at airports across the Maritimes today as a powerful winter storm blows through the region.
Environment Canada has issued winter storm warnings for all of Nova Scotia and Prince Edward Island and most of New Brunswick.
The national weather forecaster says up to 30 centimetres of snow is expected for parts of Nova Scotia, with the snow changing to a mixture of ice pellets and freezing rain Sunday afternoon.
Southern New Brunswick could get up to 40 centimetres of snow, while northern parts of the province could see up to 20 centimetres.
Up to 35 centimetres of snow is forecasted for P.E.I. today before the large storm passes Nova Scotia and tracks towards Newfoundland on Monday morning.
A number of flights at the Halifax Stanfield International Airport, the Fredericton International Airport and the Charlottetown Airport are cancelled as the provinces are blasted with winds up to 90 km/h.
