The Fredericton Police Force say they have recovered the body of a 24-year-old woman from the St. John River following a single-vehicle crash on Friday.

Police say a dark-coloured Mazda hit a rock along St. Anne's Point Drive, rolled, and went off the road around 4 a.m. They believe speed and alcohol played a factor.

Marc-Andre Doucet, 26, was sent to hospital with minor injuries and later released. Police say they had information to believe there was a second person in the car, but were unable to find her.

Messages of condolence have appeared over social media remembering the victim, Jennifer Brewer, as a beautiful young woman full of life with a big smile.

The Fredericton Police Underwater Recovery team spent much of the day Saturday searching for the woman. Brewer’s body was recovered Sunday morning.

A candlelight vigil was held Saturday night for Brewer where the crash happened.

The 26-year-old man will appear in Fredericton court on Monday to face impaired driving charges.
