A 27-year-old man and a 40-year-old woman are facing prostitution and human trafficking charges in connection with an investigation involving a 16-year-old girl in Halifax.
Halifax Regional Police started investigating the pair on Monday. Investigators allege the accused “directed and influenced” the girl for the purpose of prostitution.
The suspects were arrested without incident at a home in the 0-100 block of Main Avenue Tuesday evening.
Kyle Leslie Pellow and Renee Allison Webber, both of Halifax, were held in custody overnight.
They each face charges of trafficking a person under the age of 18, procuring a person to offer or provide sexual services for consideration, advertising, assault, sexual assault, and material benefit from trafficking a person under the age of 18.
Webber has also been charged with obstruction while Pellow is facing additional charges of uttering threats and breach of a recognizance.
Pellow and Webber are due to appear in Halifax provincial court on Wednesday.
