Police in Halifax are investigating a brazen abduction attempt from a home in a wealthy neighbourhood in the city’s south end.

No one was injured in the incident but police are still on the hunt for a suspect.

Police say a masked man armed with a gun entered a waterfront home on Oakland Road and tried to force another man out before 10 a.m.

Police say the victim managed to force the suspect to flee and then called police.

The area was quickly cordoned off and officers were on watch at different points in the neighbourhood.

A K9 unit was brought in to assist police in their search, but was unable to locate the suspect.

Area residents were surprised to find a strong police presence in their normally quiet neighbourhood.

“It makes me kind of worried,” says neighbor Mike Cheng. “Like, right next door to my house, it’s kind of worrying about, um, especially a firearm.”

“We walk dogs in this neighbourhood and all you see is friendly people around, really, walking around, saying ‘hello’ whenever you stop by,” says Heather MacDonald. “So, to see cop cars or police tape is definitely something out of the ordinary for sure.”

According to the Registry of Deeds, the home is listed under the names Bradley Langille and Kelly d’Eon. Neighbours say the pair lives in the home with three children.

Langille is well known in the mining industry.

“As far as motive and exactly what has transpired, our investigators are trying to piece that together at this time,” says Const. Pierre Bourdages.

Investigators spent much of Tuesday morning going door-to-door, asking neighbours if they had seen or heard anything.

While some residents were surprised by the commotion, others say it can happen anywhere.

“I hate to say it, but you kind of start to become a little bit desensitized to it because you hear something about it almost everyday,” says MacDonald.

Police are looking for a white man with a slim build. He is roughly six-feet-tall and wore a black mask, black jacket and dark, baggy pants at the time of the incident.

A small, black vehicle was also seen in the area but police aren’t certain whether it is connected to the incident.

Anyone with information is being asked to contact police.
