The woman known internationally as the ‘Internet Black Widow’ remains behind bars tonight.

Seventy-seven-year-old Melissa Ann Weeks arrived at a Sydney court this afternoon under escort from Dartmouth’s Burnside jail. She’s accused of trying to kill her husband with a noxious substance.

Seventy-five-year-old Fred Weeks fell ill after the couple checked into a North Sydney, N.S. bed and breakfast just days after they were married.

Weeks has two previous convictions involving partners, including manslaughter.

The Crown opposes bail.

“What we do is look atan individual’s past history and we look at the likelihood based on that, and on the information that we have that they may continue to commit more offences,” says Crown Attorney Diane McGrath. “Based on the information that we currently have, the Crown still has that concern.”

Weeks has been remanded back to jail, pending a bail hearing set for Friday.
