Police in northern Nova Scotia have charged a man after the alleged sexual assault of an 84-year-old woman in her Springhill home.

Police allege the assault occurred after someone broke into the woman's home before dawn on Sunday.

Deputy chief Ken Matthews says a 45-year-old suspect was arrested at a home in the community about three hours later.

He's due in court Wednesday on charges of sexual assault causing bodily harm, break and enter, committing sexual assault and forcible confinement.
