A man has been charged in connection with the death of a missing Apohaqui, N.B. woman whose body was found Monday evening.
Police say Jessica Ann Miller, 20, was last seen around 5:30 p.m. Thursday and was last in contact with someone via text on Friday.
Miller’s family reported her missing Sunday.
"They were concerned for her well-being, as this was very unlike Jessica. We sadly discovered her body yesterday, July 13th,” said RCMP spokesperson Const. Jullie Rogers-Marsh.
Investigators found Miller’s car in Saint John Monday afternoon. Her body was found in a wooded area off Highway 1 near Prince of Wales around 8 p.m. Monday.
Police aren’t saying what drew them to the area about 25 kilometres west of Saint John, where there continued to be a heavy police presence on Tuesday.
Police arrested a 20-year-old Hampton man in connection with her disappearance Monday and took him into custody for questioning.
Jesse Edwards Reynolds appeared in Saint John provincial court Tuesday morning, sitting quietly with his head bowed and wiping his eyes a few times.
Reynolds is facing a charge of causing an indignity to a human body, and is currently not charged with Miller’s death.
He has been remanded into custody until his next court appearance on Aug. 4.
Outside the courthouse, defence lawyer David Lutz declined to answer questions from the media.
Police say an autopsy is being conducted to determine a cause of death and further charges are possible.
