A 50-year-old Edmundston man has been charged with first-degree murder in the death of a 70-year-old man from Rivière-Verte, N.B.

The RCMP say the man’s body was found in his Soucy Road home shortly before 6:30 p.m. Saturday.

His death was initially considered suspicious and police say an autopsy has confirmed the man was the victim of a homicide.

He has been identified as Roger Parent.

Police arrested a man at his Edmundston home shortly after 5 p.m. Wednesday in connection with Parent’s death.

Sylvain Bard appeared in Edmundston provincial court Thursday morning to face a charge of first-degree murder.

He was remanded into custody and is due back in court for a bail hearing on March 22.
