Police are searching for a man they say escaped custody while being transferred to a sheriff's van in the parking lot of Truro Justice Centre.

The Nova Scotia Department of Justice said in a news release Marc Joseph Pellerin, 43, was on remand for a number of property related charges.

The Moncton man was being transferred from Shediac Jail in New Brunswick to Halifax for a Monday court appearance.

Pellerin is facing a slew of charges, including break and enter, theft of over $5,000 and resisting arrest.

Pellerin had previously escaped a police vehicle in May.

“Obviously this is upsetting to (officers),” said Fred Hildebrand, director of Nova Scotia Sherriff Services. “But they are concerned and that’s why we have to do an investigation to find out exactly what happened and to prevent something like that from happening again.”

Pellerin is 5’7”, 155 pounds with brown hair and brown eyes.

He was last seen wearing a dark jacket, jeans and white sneakers.

Truro police, the RCMP and Sheriff Services are searching for the man.

Anyone who sees him is asked to contact police.
