A 39-year-old Ottawa man is facing drug charges after the RCMP stopped a vehicle near Havelock, N.B. last month.
Police say they seized large amounts of marijuana, hydromorphone and e-joints, or electronic marijuana vapour cigarettes, from the vehicle and arrested the driver.
Police say the e-joints were analyzed and found to contain cannabis oil and tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), the psychoactive component in marijuana.
This is the first time New Brunswick RCMP have intercepted a marijuana product in the form of an e-joint, which police say can be consumed discretely because they are odourless and look like a regular e-cigarette.
Police say the e-joints are illegal and treated the same as any form of marijuana.
“E-joints are becoming increasingly popular because they are odourless, harder to detect,” said RCMP Cpl. Martin Hachey. “It is important for the public, especially parents, to be aware that certain e-cigarettes may in fact contain components of marijuana.”
Stéphane Fournier is facing three counts of possession of controlled substances for the purposes of trafficking and three counts of trafficking controlled substances.
He was released on conditions and will appear back in court at a later date.
