A stand off between an armed man in his mid-to-late twenties and police in the rural community of Scoudouc, N.B. had residents scrambling and worried for their own safety.

A little after 7:30 a.m. on Monday, several police cars blocked Route 132, south of Malakoff Rd.

Ganice Coates, a nearby resident, says a police officer came to her door and asked her to vacate the property. "She just said there was a dangerous situation."

Louis Melanson, who lives across the street from where the incident took place, was told to stay inside and lock the doors.

According to Codiac RCMP, the situation started on Sunday night. Authorities received a call that a male had entered a local bar on Elmwood Dr. and was allegedly brandishing a firearm.

Authorities have not released the man's identity due to pending charges, but have confirmed he is a white male, about 26 or 27 years of age and a resident of Scoudouc .

The man is in police custody and will be charged tomorrow in a Moncton court room.
