A 55-year-old man has died after his SUV collided head-on with a car near Nova Scotia’s Lawrencetown Beach.

Halifax RCMP responded to the crash on Highway 207 before 6 a.m.

Police say the car’s two female occupants were thrown from the vehicle while the male driver of the SUV was trapped inside his vehicle and had to be extricated.

He was conscious in the ambulance, but was pronounced dead upon arrival at the Queen Elizabeth II Health Sciences Centre in Halifax.

The two women, believed to be in their late teens or early 20s, were also taken to hospital in Halifax with life-threatening injuries.

Lawrencetown Road was closed to traffic in both directions for several hours while police investigated the scene. It has since reopened.

Police are asking anyone who may have witnessed the collision to contact them.
