There are some mixed feelings in one Halifax neighbourhood concerning a sizable development planned for the area.

Dozens of residents showed up for a public consultation on a new condo project on Chebucto Road.

“I just want to get it clear in my head,” questions one resident, “that this is not going from three-storeys to five-storeys, that it was always five-storeys, is that correct?”

The new development includes a commercial floor, residential units and underground parking.

However, many people who live in the area say the building will not suit the neighbourhood.

“Having seen other developments in the area, like Chebucto Coffee or Noble Grape, which are new,” explains resident Duncan Lawrence. “Those are to scale and fit into the neighbourhood. This just doesn’t look like it fits, five-storeys, just feels like, well, it looks too big, it feels too big.”

Feedback from Monday night’s meeting will be shared with the local community council.

If they approve it, the project will proceed to the next stage.
