MONCTON, N.B. - The New Brunswick government is looking for a buyer to take over the landmark Moncton High School.

The province hopes new owners can preserve the 77-year-old building and its surrounding property by using it for some other purpose.

The school was temporarily closed in 2010 after health and structural concerns.

In 2011, the government spent $2 million on the school to make it safe for students and staff.

A new school is under construction and set to open in 2013.

Resembling a castle, the province says preservation of the building is an important aspect of its request for proposals.

"The redevelopment could include, but is not limited to, arts and culture, community space, residential, retail and commercial space, or green space," the province says on its website.
