There was a sizable crowd in one Nova Scotia community Wednesday night as dozens of residents gathered to learn more about the millions of litres of fracking wastewater in their area.

The information session was held in Kennetcook and hosted by the province.

It gave residents a chance to ask questions about what will happen to the water.

The province’s environment minister attended, and acknowledged many people simply want the water safety removed.

“It went well,” says Nova Scotia Environment Minister Randy Delorey.”I think it went well because people were respectful. They took their time and turns at the mic. They asked a lot of questions that I think they’ve been waiting a long time to ask, and get answers from. I think by that standard it went quite well.

“The perfect scenario would be to clean up the fracking wastewaters that are currently in the ponds,” says East Hants Fracking Opposition Group member Janelle Frail. “One of which, is only a kilometre from the high school and elementary school. Clean that up, and to ban fracking all together in Nova Scotia, that would be the ultimate. “

Residents of Kennetcook say they would like to see the meetings continue, and several more are planned.
