A Liverpool, N.S., man says he dodged a bullet after being struck by lightning on Sunday.

Darren Webb says he was about to get in his vehicle when the incident occurred.

"I got knocked across the yellow line and I remember seeing a massive, massive, gigantic fireball going up into the sky," said Webb. "I forgot something in the trunk, just a step, reached for the door handle, kaboom."

Webb was rushed to the hospital, where doctors told him he was lucky to be alive. He says he’s not quite himself just yet.

"I just had a doctor's appointment this morning actually and it's kind of fuzzy,” said Webb on Tuesday. “(I have a) numb hand and numb arm, and I'm kind of back to the carsick, concussion stage."

The strike also caused property damage. Liverpool resident Sharon Dorey says a trench was left behind from the strike. Her basement window was smashed and a heat pump was burnt out.

Later, a neighbour told her the house and a nearby tree had been hit by lightning.

"There was a very loud boom and a big flash of light, and that was it,” said Dorey. “I didn't know what happened."

Dorey says she understands why lightning may have struck her area, as the tallest tree in Liverpool lives just outside her home.
