N.S. premier cheers local hero Sidney Crosby after Stanley Cup victory

HALIFAX -- Nova Scotia's premier says the province is very proud of Sidney Crosby.

Stephen McNeil says the Nova Scotia-born hockey player showed "grit, tenacity and determination" in leading the Pittsburgh Penguins to their Stanley Cup victory Sunday.

Crosby, who grew up in Cole Harbour, N.S., was also named winner of the Conn Smythe Trophy as playoffs MVP.

McNeil says even Nova Scotians who aren't Pittsburgh fans could be proud of Crosby's demeanour and effort.

It was the Penguins' second Stanley Cup under Crosby's captaincy.

The year of his first cup, 2009, he was presented with the Order of Nova Scotia.
