A Nova Scotia community is all abuzz over rumours that a TV series based on a Stephen King novel will be filmed in the area.
Officials with the Town of Windsor remain tight-lipped on details, but say the area was scouted earlier in the year by a production team and that shooting will begin in the fall.
From Sandra Bullock’s “Two if by Sea” to Dermot Mulroney’s “The Memory Keeper’s Daughter,” the town has been welcoming movie productions to the area since the 1970s.
Municipal officials say, when large productions come to the region, an economic boost follows.
“That’s 100 new customers that arrive on our doorstep every single day that they’re here, so they’re buying gas and food,” says Vanessa Roberts, the town’s director of Community Development, Tourism and Recreation.
Roberts confirms a new production is slated to begin in the area in the fall – but that’s all she will say, for now.
“I can say that yes, Windsor has been scouted a couple of times this year, starting back as early as March,” says Roberts.
In April, the American-based TV channel Spike TV announced a 10-episode series based on Stephen King’s “The Mist” will debut next year.
Heather Donohue, the chair of the Business Enhancement Society, has watched movies being filmed outside her business. She’s crossing her fingers that the rumours will soon be turned into reality.
“As a music store, we’ve rented equipment to production crews. We’ve had, you know, products used in movies and things like that. We’ve been used as the green room. It’s really cool, it’s fun,” says Donohue.
“That would be really cool. I would love to have a Stephen King TV series come here. Stephen King could come visit too.”
The production company has yet to comment.
