SACKVILLE, N.B. -- Mount Allison University says it will not be extending its school year following a three-week strike by faculty.

The school's Senate met Wednesday and decided to preserve study week as planned from Feb. 22 to March 1.

Officials also opted to move the last day of classes from Apr. 8 to Apr. 11 and the start of the examination period from Apr. 12 to Apr. 14 with the last day of exams being Apr. 24.

Karen Grant, vice-president academic and research, says university officials feel it's important to retain study weeks because many of the 2,400 students have personal and family commitments that are difficult to re-arrange.

Grant says the week will also give faculty time to make necessary changes to their course outlines.

Administration and the union, which represents 154 full-time and 56 part-time faculty and librarians agreed on the terms of binding arbitration last weekend, ending the strike.
