Police have found and arrested a man who left the East Coast Forensic Hospital in Burnside, N.S. without permission Saturday night.
Mark Baltzer, 58, was seen driving his own 2012 black Dodge Ram truck after leaving the hospital after 8 p.m.
Capital Health spokesman Everton McLean says Baltzer was in the hospital's parking lot, under supervision, moving his Dodge truck from one parking location to another. McLean says Baltzer had been allowed offsite with day passes in recent weeks, but that changed when his mood began to shift in the last few days.
McLean says Batlzer was allowed to tend to his truck under the supervision of a guard Saturday evening, but that he managed to drive away without permission.
Baltzer's truck was discovered at a home on New Brittan Road in Five Islands, N.S. just before 3 p.m. Sunday.
Police surrounded the home and Baltzer surrendered peacefully.
Baltzer is from Somerset, N.S. He has a history of altercations with the law dating back to 2010, including an arrest in Newfoundland after police found weapons in a vehicle, and a hit list with the names of four Mounties. He was found not criminally responsible, but was ordered to submit to the care of a psychiatrist.
He was also linked to threats uttered against police in the Annapolis Valley last fall, but was found not criminally responsible.
Police said Baltzer isn't considered a threat to the general public because his behaviour is normally directed towards police.
McLean says there will be an investigation of the incident followed by an internal review.
