Police have identified the victim of what they are calling a “sudden death” in Bridgewater, N.S., on Monday.
Police confirm the body of missing Bridgewater resident Catherine Burgoyne, 58, was found early Monday afternoon in a wooded area north of the downtown core.
Burgoyne was reported missing earlier in the day. She was last seen on Thursday.
Police are treating the death as suspicious until more details are confirmed.
"Until such a time as the M.E.'s office and the ident people can get in there, with them, and have a closer look at the scene, then we'll have a better sense of whether this is foul play or something else," said Bridgewater Police Chief John Collyer on Monday.
An autopsy was performed Tuesday morning. Police say more tests are required to determine a cause of death.
