Halifax Regional Police are asking for the public’s help in identifying a person of interest in connection with the shooting death of a man in Dartmouth last week.

Police responded to Leaman Drive around 2:50 a.m. on Sept. 1 after receiving a call from a man who said he had been shot.

They found the man behind John MacNeil Elementary School. He was taken to hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

The man has been identified as 48-year-old Rickey Walker, who was a manager at a nearby call centre. His death has been ruled a homicide.

Police have released a photo of a man they believe was in the area at the time of Walker’s death and say they would like to speak with him.

Police add that the man is currently not a suspect.

“A person of interest could be a witness, they may have witnessed an incident and have information,” said Wendy Mansfiled of Halifax Regional Police. “Or a person of interest may just have information and they may not be a witness per se.”

Walker’s death is the ninth homicide in the Halifax area so far this year.

Police say they have no suspects in the case.
