The Dennis Oland murder trial examined the last phone calls Richard Oland made on July 7, 2011 - the day he was murdered.
Richard Oland’s iPhone has never been found, but phone company records were brought to court Tuesday to try and determine the location of the phone the evening of the murder.
Sylvie Gill is an investigator with Rogers Communications in Montreal. The jury listened as Gill listed all the texts and calls made to and from Richard Oland’s cellphone the day he was killed.
Most of the exchanges were between Oland and his mistress, Diana Sedlacek. They began at 9 a.m.
The last call Richard Oland made on July 7 was at 10 a.m. The last text message sent was around 12 p.m.
Gill said the last communication received by his cellphone was at 6:44 p.m. that evening from Sedlecek.
Phone messages show the message was relayed by a cellphone tower in Rothesay, N.B.
Richard Oland did not respond to any attempts to reach him that evening.
Dennis Oland was seen in the Renforth Wharf area of Rothesay the night his father died. He told a police interviewer that he dropped by the wharf to see if his children were there swimming.
During most of this day, lawyers for both the Crown and defence struggled to resolve legal issues in the absence of the jury - matters that cannot be reported.
Gill has yet to be cross-examined by defence lawyers. That is expected to begin Wednesday.
Dennis Oland has pleaded not guilty to second-degree murder in connection with the death of his father, Richard Oland, whose body was found in his Saint John office.
