The wife of Const. Douglas James Larche, one of three officers shot and killed during a shooting rampage in Moncton on Wednesday, has released a statement through the RCMP.
“First and foremost, Doug lived for his family,” says Nadine Larche. “His three daughters, aged 4, 8 and 9, were his little princesses, his most precious treasures. He was an extraordinary father and husband, loyal and completely selfless.”
Larche joined the RCMP just over ten years ago. He worked in Doaktown, N.B. and was then transferred to the Codiac detachment in 2006. He has been a part of several divisions of the force. At the time of his death, he was a member of the Codiac Major Crime Unit. He received a commander's commendation for saving the life of an unconscious baby in 2008.
In his free time, Larche enjoyed running. He recently set a new personal best in a half-marathon he ran in May.
“Doug had a silly sense of humour, one that he would often only reveal to his family and close friends,” says his wife. “He was the best person I knew. I had and still have the utmost love and admiration for him.”
She finished by showing appreciation for all the support her family has received and also by asking for privacy during this time. She also encouraged others to honour her late husband’s memory as he would have wanted.
“We must not let fear dictate our future; Doug worked every day for a safer and better world for all of us.”
