HALIFAX -- Nova Scotia is going to be a destination for tall ships racing across the Atlantic in 2017 as part of the 150th anniversary of Canada.

The ships will be part of the Rendezvous 2017 Regatta, a trans-Atlantic race of 40 tall ships.

The vessels will cover 7,000 nautical miles and visit six countries, with Nova Scotia being a destination in the final leg of the race.

The province announced today it will provide $1.5 million over two years to help communities host ships in July 2017.

Dates and the specific locations where the ships will visit are to be announced in the coming months.
