The RCMP say three men are facing arson charges after five structures were destroyed by fire in Joggins, N.S. in May.

Police say about a dozen fire departments were called to fires at four different buildings in the community on May 5.

As emergency personnel responded to those fires, a fifth blaze was reported at the Masonic lodge building on Highway 242 in Joggins.

A Baptist church near the lodge sustained smoke and water damage after it caught fire.

In all, five structures were destroyed and a firefighter from the River Hebert Fire Department suffered non-life-threatening injuries.

Police said the fires were considered suspicious and three men were arrested without incident Thursday morning.

Tyson Bradley Tompkins, 26, and Brandon Kyle Burbine, 20, both of Joggins, and Tyson Daniel David Taylor-Brown, 21, of Upper Nappan each face five counts of arson, one count of conspiracy to commit arson and one count of mischief.

"I want to thank the community for their patience - it has been an unsettling time, and all of our RCMP Members know what an impact these fires have had on the local area," said Cumberland District RCMP Sgt. Keith MacKinnon.

Police say the trio is due in Amherst provincial court Friday.
