SYDNEY, N.S. - The Cape Breton Regional Police says one of its constables and a special constable are accused of interfering with the execution of police duties.

The force says the two were charged after an investigation with the assistance of Halifax Regional Police of an alleged incident in May.

Const. Ron Williams, an 11-year veteran of the police service, is scheduled to appear in Sydney provincial court Oct. 24 facing charges of obstruction of justice and breach of public trust.

Special Const. Todd MacKay, an eight-year employee at the local lockup, is set to appear in court Oct. 26 facing two counts of obstruction of justice and two of breach of public trust.

The force says both have been suspended with pay and remain suspended pending the outcome of court proceedings.

Police spokeswoman Desiree Vassallo would not provide any further details, other than to confirm that the two were both on duty at the time of the alleged offences.
