There is yet another opportunity to live and work in Cape Breton, and get something for free.

Orthotics and prosthetics clinic owner Jennifer Halliday is giving her business away in Sydney, so long as a newcomer moves to the island.

"A fully-functioning orthopedic clinic. It's a very unique field, so it's not like just anybody can come in and learn the recipe and run it,” says Halliday. “You need to have certain credential, so the problem is finding someone with that credential who's willing to move to Cape Breton."

Halliday is moving because her husband is starting a new job out of town. She posted an ad online saying the clinic is free to anyone, “motivated to move to beautiful Cape Breton Island and keep it running.”

"It's a beautiful place to live. You can buy a piece of property for so much less than you can elsewhere. It's a lovely place to raise a family," says Halliday.

Halliday admits her idea is inspired by a similar ad at The Farmer's Daughter. The store offers free land to anyone willing to move there for work.

Last week, doctors at a hospital along the Cabot Trail promised a free place to live to anyone interested in practicing over the summer.

Real estate agent Valarie Sampson says there’s s a market for a more rural style of living.

"With the housing movement in Ontario, their first choice was to come back to Cape Breton. So I believe every agent here worked with at least 10 people from Ontario, formerly from Cape Breton. So we're seeing people coming back here," says Sampson.

Halladay wants a new owner in place before she moves at the end of June.
