A young hockey player who lost all of his gear in the Alberta floods has a lot to smile about after scoring a chance to meet hockey hero Sidney Crosby.

Things started looking up for 10-year-old Dayne Greiner after he received a phone call from an old hockey coach a few weeks ago.

“He got a huge smile on his face and said ‘mom, I can’t believe it. This is incredible,’” says mom Kellie Greiner.

Greiner and his family were asked to fly from Calgary to Halifax to watch the production of Sport Chek’s new hockey commercial, which stars Crosby.

Greiner was also asked to take part in the commercial.

“I did a full scene like, 50 times, and they just picked out my best parts,” says Greiner.

The production crew says Greiner did a terrific job on the ice.

“A lot of the stuff we asked Dayne to do, ah, let’s see if he can do it, and first, second attempt he’s just flying around with the puck and doing moves just like Crosby,” says Sport Chek employee Brendon Arnold.

“So, watch out for the NHL. We might have a future prospect.”

Greiner also spent some time with Crosby, who told him to keep working hard and listen to his coaches.
