A 28-year-old Amherst, N.S. man has pleaded guilty to manslaughter and trafficking methadone in connection with the death of 20-year-old Kody Cook.

Cook was found dead in his Amherst, N.S. home several hours after he returned from working at a fish plant in Grand Barachois, N.B. on June 24, 2014.

His mother, Wendy Golden, told CTV Atlantic in January that her son had bought $7 worth of prescription methadone from a co-worker earlier that day.

Neil Calder was charged in December with manslaughter, criminal negligence causing death and trafficking in methadone in connection with Cook’s death.

Calder appeared Thursday in Moncton provincial court, where he admitted to causing the death of his friend and co-worker, pleading guilty to manslaughter and trafficking methadone.

The charge of criminal negligence causing death will be dealt with when Calder returns to court for sentencing on June 29.
