Fourteen people have been temporarily displaced by a fire at a townhouse in Saint John.

The fire started at the four-unit townhouse on Taylor Avenue Tuesday afternoon.

All occupants managed to get out safely, but two units sustained significant damage.

“The fire was in the living room and the bedroom of one apartment,” says Saint John Fire Platoon Chief Kevin Comeau. “The other two apartments have no damage, fortunately, and the basement is all clear.”

Electricity was cut to the entire building as a safety precaution.

The Canadian Red Cross is helping five adults and six children with emergency lodging, food and clothing. The organization says three others made their own arrangements.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
