A 50-year-old Dartmouth man remains in hospital after being shot on a Halifax area road Monday.

Halifax Regional Police say the victim was walking down Lahey Road in Dartmouth just after 2 a.m.  when he was approached by two males.

Constable Pierre Bourdages says the suspects demanded his belongings and then shot him.

“[He was] approached by two men, one was black, one was white, and they robbed him of his possessions, and they fired a single shot that hit him in the torso," says Cst. Bourdages.

Those who live in the neighbourhood say it’s usually a quiet place.

“I’m definitely a little nervous, I was assuming, I mean I've only been here four months, so I was assuming this was all families here,” says resident Layne Doucette,

The victim was taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries.

Police are still looking for the two suspects who fled the scene.

Until the victim is well enough to talk, investigators are scouring the area for possible surveillance video that may help their investigation.
