HALIFAX - Environment Canada says a storm will bring a mix of snow and rain to parts of the winter-weary Maritimes on Saturday.

The national weather forecaster says a low pressure system will develop south of the Maritimes Saturday night and will intensify as it moves over the Gulf of St. Lawrence on Sunday.

Parts of eastern New Brunswick, western Prince Edward Island and northern Nova Scotia can expect up to 20 centimetres of snow by Sunday morning.

Environment Canada says in western areas of Nova Scotia, snow will begin Saturday afternoon before changing to rain and back to snow overnight.

Meanwhile, rainfall warnings are in effect for the Halifax area, with up to 40 millimetres expected.
