HALIFAX -- Jury selection is scheduled to resume Tuesday in Halifax in the case of two people charged in the death of Loretta Saunders last year.

The trial of Blake Leggette and Victoria Henneberry, each charged with first-degree murder, began Monday in Nova Scotia Supreme Court.

Leggette and Henneberry were arrested in Ontario and brought to Nova Scotia to face the charges.

Henneberry's lawyer had asked the court that the two accused be tried separately, a motion that Leggette's lawyer supported, but the court rejected it.

Four weeks have been set aside for their trial.

The 26-year-old woman's body was found in a wooded area off the Trans-Canada Highway in New Brunswick, two weeks after she disappeared from her Halifax apartment in February 2014.
