A 40-year-old man is dead after his vehicle left the road in Cape Breton early Sunday morning.

Cape Breton Regional Police responded to the single-vehicle collision near Highway 28, in South Bar, just before 1:30 a.m.

Police say the driver was pronounced dead at the scene.

A 29-year-old passenger was taken to the Cape Breton Regional Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. He has since been released from hospital.

The collision remains under investigation.
