One person is dead and two others are in hospital following a head-on collision in Clyde River, P.E.I.

The RCMP and emergency crews responded to the crash on the Bannockburn Road around 7:10 p.m. Wednesday.

Police say a southbound vehicle lost control and crossed over into the oncoming lane, colliding with a northbound vehicle.

The 33-year-old male driver of the southbound vehicle died at the scene.

Two women in the second vehicle were taken to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital with serious injuries.

Police say the collision is still under investigation but slippery roads may have been a contributing factor.
