HALIFAX - The court-appointed monitor for the closed NewPage Port Hawkesbury paper mill says it has received letters of interest from potential buyers, but isn't revealing how many.
Ernst & Young said the non-binding letters of intent were received prior to Wednesday's deadline.
Julie Fournier, a spokeswoman for the monitor, said it would work with Sanabe and Associates to evaluate each of the potential buyer's ability to complete a transaction.
She said qualified bidders will be told by Monday if they will be invited to continue in the sales process.
Those bidders will then have until Oct. 14 to submit a formal purchase offer.
The mill in Point Tupper closed earlier this month, throwing about 1,000 people out of work both in the plant and area woodlands operations.
