A 24-year-old Sherbrooke, N.S., woman who claimed she was sexually assaulted by a man outside her home has been charged with public mischief after the complaint was unfounded.

Cpl. Dal Hutchinson of Nova Scotia RCMP says officers responded to a reported sexual assault around 8 p.m. on Friday.

The woman told police that shortly after 7 p.m., a man drove up to her home and approached her.

Police say the two were not known to each other.

After a brief conversation, the woman said the man sexually assaulted her and fled the scene in a vehicle.

The next day, police released a suspect description asking for the public’s help in identifying him.

An RCMP forensic sketch artist was also called in.

Police say their investigation determined that the sexual assault did not occur.

The 24-year-old will appear in Antigonish provincial court on Oct. 26 to face the charges.
