HALIFAX – Two men and a woman are facing theft charges after allegedly stealing backpacks from a campsite in Long Lake Provincial Park.

On Aug. 25 at 9 p.m., Halifax Regional Police responded to a call made by two campers. They reported that their backpacks and a number of important items were stolen while looking for a camp site off St. Margaret’s Bay Road.

They did not see anyone take their belongings.

Police say, at the time, they were not able to locate any suspects or stolen items.

On Aug. 26, the campers contacted the police again after spotting their backpacks for sale in an online Kijiji ad.

The police say they arranged for the campers to meet the sellers around 4 p.m. As the sellers arrived at the meeting location, police say they arrested a 47-year-old woman and two men, aged 19 and 20.

They are facing charges of theft under $5,000, possession of stolen goods under $5,000 and trafficking property obtained by crime.

The accused were released from police custody under conditions to avoid parks or beaches.

They’re set to appear in Halifax Provincial Court at a later date
