CTV News has learned Victoria Henneberry, convicted in the death of Loretta Saunders, has filed for appeal — but it may be too late.
Nova Scotia Public Prosecution Services spokeswoman Chris Hansen confirmed Henneberry filed her notice of appeal on Tuesday.
Hansen said Henneberry has missed her deadline to file for appeal, which was 30 days after her conviction in April.
Henneberry reportedly claims she believed she had 60 days to make the filing.
In her notice of appeal, Henneberry says she wasn’t in the right mindset when she pleaded guilty to second-degree murder in the death of the Halifax woman.
In April, Henneberry was sentenced to life in prison, with parole eligibility after 10 years, for her role in the killing.
Her former boyfriend Blake Leggette received a life sentence with parole eligibility after 25 years after pleading guilty to first-degree murder.
The Crown, defence and a judge are scheduled to meet by teleconference on July 29.
