At least 20 stores at Halifax’s Bayers Lake Business Park have closed due to fears around accumulated ice and snow on their roofs.

Global Pet Foods closed late Friday afternoon, and evacuated all the animals in the store.

A recording on the store’s voice mailbox said the store will be closed until Monday at earliest due to structural concerns about the roof.

Cineplex’s Scotiabank Theatre closed around 4 p.m., after the end of the afternoon matinee, due to the same fears.

“We preordered tickets and they gave us complimentary tickets and we'll get a refund,” said moviegoer Heather Jollimore.

A Cineplex spokesperson said the company hopes to reopen the theatre as soon as the situation is resolved.

At least 20 stores at the Chain Lake Drive shopping complex were closed on Friday afternoon, including Mark’s Work Wearhouse, Bulk Barn, the Le Château outlet store, Mr. Big and Tall, The Source, Bell Alliant, Dollarama, Marshall’s, Home Outfitters, Sears, Spartan Fitness, EasyFinancial, EB Games, Quality Footwear, Golf Central, and Paderno.
