Sailings on board the Bluenose II in Lunenburg have been cancelled for the second time this summer for repairs.
Bluenose II consultant Wilson Fitt says the crew reported a hesitation between the turn of the wheel and the response of the rudder.
He says this issue is not tied to steering issues in the past.
"The initial diagnosis is it’s a value issue in the hydraulic system itself,” he said.
Crews were inviting visitors on board Wednesday, saying they were open for deck visits only.
"This is a complicated project and we have all had our moments of frustration," said Fitt.
The cancellation has left visitors disappointed and frustrated.
"I asked if it was working [a crew member] said, ‘No there's a mechanical issue,’” said one visitor. “Seemed to be a little bit agitated when I mentioned about the money we spent on it and still not working.”
Nearly three years overdue, $5 million over budget and a total of $20 million for whole restoration, the crew hopes the delay will not lead to more expenses.
They believe the part is under warranty and a representative is on the way from B.C. to assess the situation to bring parts.
His is expected to be in Lunenburg tomorrow.
There is no timetable for the vessel’s return.
