Charges have been dropped against a 25-year-old woman who had been implicated in a cyberbullying case involving a 15-year-old girl.
CTV News recently reported the story of a Maritime teen who says she has been the victim of sexual assault and cyberbullying, in a case involving several fake Instagram accounts that featured death threats and graphic images.
That prompted an RCMP investigation and charges of sexual assault and uttering threats being laid.
But on Tuesday, RCMP dropped them.
“At this time I can tell you that the charges have been dropped against the 25-year-old female,” said RCMP spokesperson Sgt. Al LeBlanc.
Now that woman is speaking out.
Arielle Milner says she was shocked to learn she had been charged.
“I just want everybody to know the truth and to just know that what they thought I was doing was never me in the first place,” Milner said.
Milner says she’s been bullied herself, and wants people to know she would never do the same to others.
“It's a small community of people and when something like that happens, it just affects you,” Milner said.
Now she says she wants nothing more than to put the entire experience behind her — and for the family of the 15-year-old girl to apologize.
CTV News reached out the teen’s family on Tuesday, but they declined to comment.
Milner’s family says the whole situation has taken a toll.
“It's been a stressful couple weeks, that’s for sure. It just goes to show you, don't believe everything you hear,” said Tara Milner, Arielle’s sister.
